The Scorpion's Children: A Cautionary Tale

After giving birth, a scorpion carries its young on its back. The babies feed on their mother's flesh, biting and gnawing at her. Despite her strength, the mother scorpion endures the pain silently, never complaining. Eventually, she becomes unable to move, while her children grow strong enough to fend for themselves. By then, the mother scorpion has died.
Sadly, many of us have become like the scorpion's children. Parents work tirelessly to provide for their children, from birth to education, marriage, and beyond. However, many of us fail to care for our aging parents, neglecting them as we pursue our own interests, just like the scorpion's children.
In the Quran, Allah commands us to respect our parents, saying, "Do not say 'uff' to them nor rebuke them, but speak to them with respect." (17:23) He also states, "Paradise lies at the feet of your mothers." Furthermore, Allah emphasizes the importance of obeying our parents, saying, "We have enjoined upon man to be good to his parents." (29:8) Even smiling at our parents' faces is considered an act of worship, equivalent to an accepted Hajj pilgrimage.
Let us reflect on our relationships with our parents and strive to be more compassionate and caring towards them.
